Copper-Sui Integration Now Covers Custody and Staking

Copper’s integration with Sui has developed from its original custody rollout into a broader institutional access layer that now includes staking support. The relationship began in June 2024 rather than as a newly announced 2026 partnership, but Copper’s current infrastructure shows that capabilities initially described as future additions have since moved into production.

In its original Sui integration announcement, Copper said the first phase already supported custody of SUI and native Sui assets, with staking and DeFi connectivity still under development. Today, Copper lists Sui among both its supported custody networks and staking-enabled blockchains. Institutions can therefore custody SUI within Copper’s infrastructure and access staking without moving the asset into a separate retail-style wallet environment.

Copper’s current custody directory also includes USDC issued on Sui. Its staking infrastructure operates through integrated providers and Copper’s MPC-based custody environment, with transaction policies and approval workflows applied through the same institutional platform. The practical value lies in combining asset control and staking operations under a governance framework designed for professional users rather than proving institutional demand for Sui itself.

Custody Infrastructure Reduces an Operational Barrier

Institutional blockchain access involves more than whether an asset can technically be transferred onchain. Custody policies, authorization procedures, key management, transaction controls and reporting all affect whether an organization can incorporate a network into normal operations. Adding Sui to an established institutional custody stack removes one layer of operational fragmentation without demonstrating how much capital institutions will ultimately deploy through the network.

That distinction has become increasingly important as crypto moves into regulated financial workflows. The operational role of custody is also central to institutional crypto adoption beyond headline investment products, because institutions must establish who controls assets and how transfers are approved before blockchain exposure can become routine.

Staking adds another operational layer. Copper currently supports staking across more than 20 networks, including Sui, through integrated providers rather than requiring clients to build validator relationships independently. Sui staking is therefore part of Copper’s wider multichain infrastructure rather than an exclusive service constructed solely for the network.

Sui Builds Around Payments and Institutional Workflows

The custody integration now sits alongside other infrastructure that Sui has added around its core network. In payments, Daya is already using Sui for gasless stablecoin settlement in Nigeria across business payments, liquidity and treasury workflows. That deployment provides evidence of a live payment rail, although neither Daya nor Sui has disclosed enough volume data to establish large-scale adoption.

Sui has also been integrated into Remi’s regulated stablecoin infrastructure for banking workflows, connecting the network to MiCA-compliant e-money tokens and bank-facing settlement architecture. These integrations broaden the types of financial activity that can use Sui, but infrastructure availability remains different from sustained institutional usage.

The same distinction applies to Copper. Its platform can now custody SUI, custody USDC on Sui and provide staking access, while Copper’s wider infrastructure also includes trading, collateral management and off-exchange settlement services. The available documentation does not establish that every Copper service is integrated specifically with Sui or that institutions are already using those capabilities at material scale.

What has changed since the 2024 announcement is therefore concrete but narrower than a new partnership narrative would suggest. Sui has progressed from basic Copper custody support to an environment where SUI staking and additional Sui-based assets are available inside the same institutional platform. The next useful evidence will be usage: assets held through Copper, SUI staked by institutional clients and measurable activity generated through the broader financial infrastructure being built around the network.
