Pudgy Penguins Floor Jumps After 117-NFT Whale Sweep

Pudgy Penguins recorded another sharp floor-price move after billionaire collector Adam Weitsman disclosed that he bought 117 NFTs from the Ethereum collection over the weekend. Weitsman said the purchases were made on-chain to support the Pudgy Penguins community during what he described as a difficult period, turning what initially looked like anonymous whale accumulation into an identified collector position.

In his October 11 announcement on X, Weitsman said he wanted to strengthen confidence in one of his favorite collections. Reports following the purchases put his total Pudgy Penguins holdings at 167 NFTs across multiple wallets. The acquisition represents roughly 1.3% of the collection’s 8,888 NFTs, although Weitsman did not disclose a complete transaction-by-transaction purchase value or intended holding period.

Pudgy Penguins Floor Rises as Collection Activity Accelerates

The collection’s floor moved sharply alongside the buying. An initial post-purchase snapshot placed the floor near 2.74 ETH, up 16.7% over 24 hours. Subsequent CoinGecko NFT market data showed Pudgy Penguins around 2.25 ETH with a 13.8% 24-hour gain. The changing percentages illustrate how quickly NFT floor prices can move as listings are bought, removed or repriced.

Trading activity had already strengthened before Weitsman’s public announcement. CryptoSlam data reviewed through October 10 showed Pudgy Penguins generating approximately $1.50 million in weekly sales, up 125.66%, across 196 transactions. Buyer addresses increased to 94 and seller addresses to 123. Because much of that increase preceded the announcement, the data do not support attributing the entire sales rebound or floor increase to Weitsman’s sweep.

That distinction is especially important in NFT markets, where relatively thin listing depth can make a concentrated buyer disproportionately visible. The sector has recently experienced similar bursts of activity, including a 57% weekly NFT sales rebound led heavily by Ethereum and CryptoPunks. Collection-level spikes can coexist with a much less dramatic change in the overall NFT market.

Whale Buying Does Not Equal a Broad NFT Rally

That appears to be the case here. Across tracked NFT markets, weekly sales totaled about $39.85 million, only 0.9% higher over the comparable period. Pudgy Penguins therefore substantially outperformed the aggregate market rather than simply rising with a sector-wide surge. The strongest measurable signal is concentrated demand for Pudgy Penguins, not a generalized return of NFT liquidity.

Recent market structure reinforces that caution. NFT activity has appeared in pockets, from rising secondary sales on Robinhood Chain to short-lived rebounds among Ethereum blue-chip collections. At the same time, businesses exposed to weaker long-term NFT trading have contracted, including the earlier shutdown of Gemini’s Nifty Gateway marketplace. Strong activity in one collection therefore does not establish a structural recovery across the sector.

Weitsman’s purchase nevertheless removes one uncertainty surrounding the latest Pudgy Penguins accumulation: the buyer’s identity and stated motivation are public. What remains unknown is how durable the resulting demand will be once the concentrated purchases stop. The floor has moved higher and weekly sales have accelerated, but separating a whale-driven liquidity event from sustained collection-wide demand will require activity to persist across a broader set of buyers and subsequent trading periods.
