Baylor Athletics is launching Baylor Bears Perks, a new loyalty program that will reward students, alumni and fans for engaging with the university’s sports ecosystem. The program uses Uptop’s technology and infrastructure built on Avalanche, bringing blockchain rails into a consumer rewards experience without requiring fans to interact directly with crypto tools.
According to Baylor Athletics’ official announcement, registration opens September 14 through BaylorBearsPerks.com and the official Baylor Athletics mobile app. Fans will be able to earn points by attending sporting events, engaging with the Bears and shopping with participating partners using a linked payment card.
Baylor Connects Fan Engagement With Everyday Spending
The loyalty model extends beyond game attendance by incorporating purchases such as tickets, concessions, merchandise and spending with participating Baylor Athletics partners. The structure ties routine fan activity and sponsor commerce into a single rewards system, giving corporate partners another way to interact with supporters beyond traditional advertising.
Points can be redeemed for Baylor tickets, memorabilia, exclusive experiences and other rewards. The program is designed to turn everyday support for Baylor Athletics into benefits that can be used across the wider fan ecosystem, rather than limiting incentives to individual promotions or specific game days.
The partnership was secured through Baylor Sports Properties, the university athletics department’s exclusive multimedia rights holder and a Playfly Sports property. Uptop provides the underlying loyalty technology while Baylor Sports Properties connects the system with sponsors and the broader commercial side of the athletics program.
Avalanche Runs Behind the Rewards Experience
Baylor said Uptop’s infrastructure is built on Avalanche, placing blockchain technology behind the program’s loyalty mechanics. The deployment illustrates a consumer use case where blockchain operates as backend infrastructure rather than becoming the primary feature presented to users.
That distinction could be important for mainstream adoption. Fans are primarily asked to register, link a payment card and earn points through familiar activities, while the blockchain layer supports the system underneath. Baylor Bears Perks is therefore positioned as a conventional loyalty experience with on-chain infrastructure working largely outside the user-facing workflow.
The program is also expected to evolve after launch. Baylor said future phases are planned to introduce a co-branded prepaid card that would create additional opportunities to earn points and support the athletics program. The September 14 rollout marks the first stage of a broader loyalty platform rather than a one-off rewards campaign.
For Avalanche and Uptop, the practical test will be whether the technology can support sustained fan participation without adding unnecessary complexity. Baylor Bears Perks provides a live example of blockchain infrastructure being applied to recurring consumer loyalty and sponsor engagement, with adoption ultimately depending on how frequently fans use the program after registration opens.
