THE PROJECT IN PERSPECTIVE

Understanding Bitcoin.

A peer-to-peer monetary network.

Bitcoin is an open network for transferring value without a central operator. Its native asset, BTC, is used for transfers and transaction fees. Proof-of-work miners propose blocks, while validating nodes enforce the protocol’s rules.

The protocol, the asset and the businesses built around them are related but distinct. This dossier brings together newsroom coverage, selected software publications and network observations so those different stories can be followed in context.
